Hello and Welcome To Our Guides!
Born and raise here in the Dallas area, yes a native Texan and our family goes back to the mid 1800’s here in the Dallas area.
I got married in the mid 70’s and after two little girls was divorced, the ex-wife and her new husband moved to The Colony in the late 70’s. He was a carpenter who help frame a lot of the new homes here in The Colony.
Having to come to The Colony to pick up my little girls for visitation the homes just south of N. Colony Blvd. and 423 were just being built.
When I got remarried in the early 90’s I moved in with my current wife (30+ years now) who already was living on the wynnewood peninsula.
Our guides all started back in the late 90’s and at that time there were no others online, no Facebook, no Twitter, etc.
My wife and I started a boat rental business here at hidden cove park, we created a website for our business in which it was very popular.
At that time it was all about linking to each other for better ranking on search engines.
Everyone wanted to be listed on our website as a referral and back then we all referred each other.
Many of you might know or remember us, we had adopt – a – street signs all over the area.
We were very active in the area, my wife was ambassador of the year several times over years in the Frisco chamber, I was on the board of directors in The Colony chamber, we donated a lot of time and money.
When I started on board of directors in the Colony Chamber I was told the chamber was bankrupt and the building they owned was getting repossessed because they had zero money and owed people.
My wife and I loaned the money to the Colony chamber, so we could get the building sold to pay off all debts, Dan was really great in getting the city to purchase the building.
We ask everyone back at the time to host the Chamber, we only got a bank on the south side of 121 to sponsor the chamber.
A new year came rolling around and to my amazement everyone started talking about how to spend our new found wealth instead of recruiting and retaining new members or creating a foudation.
My concept for the directory was to help and support local businesses with Free business listing and upgrades instead of having folks listed on our business website.
My directory I had created, the program became a dinosaur and no one would host it and that brings up to the curent days.
I have since changed over to a wordpress site(s) and in the beginning we were going to have a site for each city around and DFW Town Guide would be the parent site.
I was creating a franchise, a brand with blogs, etc. but only to find out it was not popular and to many thought I was their competition.
So, we are going back to the original concept!
A free business listing or page for local companies, keeping it simple and have upgrades, Ads and upgrades should pay expenses.
We at this time will not have a blog, membership or do any on-site videos, etc., we will strictly focus on creating an up to date business directory and ranking high with the search engines. With or without you submitting your business, how you want to look when people are searching is up to you.
The Colony created the CVB to be direct competition with the Chambers of Commerce and the big difference between them is the city gets hotel tax money to support their expenses as to the chamber it is soley membership driven.
Our Goal is to be that other website to where everyone, budget or No budget can be listed FREE!
All of our business pages are search engine friendly and rank very high in the search engines.
Thank You and we hope all of you enjoy our site.
